THE MYTH OF 110% / Why Giving More Than Everything is Less Than You Think
Why 100% is everything—and [ 101% ] is where the magic begins
You’ve heard it a thousand times.
"I'm giving 110%!"
"I'm putting in 200% effort!"
"We need to go all in—300%!"
And every single time? It makes our brains itch.
Because here's the truth:
— You can't give more than everything.
— You can't push past the absolute limit of what exists.
100% is the ceiling.
100% is the whole.
100% is all you've got.
So, when people claim they're giving more than 100%, they're really saying:
"Most of the time, I'm giving less."
—And that’s not just a math problem.
The Two Types of Percentages
(and why people get it wrong)
Percentages come in two flavors:
1. Relative Percentages
"I made 150% more than last year!"
(This makes sense—it's 1.5 times your previous total.)
2. Total Percentages
"I’m giving 200% of my effort!"
(This doesn't add up—if 100% is everything, what's the extra?)
That second one? It's a lie.
If you had 200% to give, your original "everything" wasn't 100% to start with.
Which means all the times you said you were going "all in," you weren't.
Why It Keeps You Stuck
(even if you’re still moving)
Inflating numbers diminishes their meaning.
— Saying you're giving 200% makes your true 100% seem small.
— Promising to try 300% harder implies your baseline effort was always less than real.
Over time, that inflation makes it easier to cheat yourself.
— To hold back.
— To under-deliver.
— To promise "later"—when you'll really give that 200%.
But there is no later.
There's only right now.
Why [ WE ] Say [ 101% ]
(and why it rules)
Here's the twist—we break our own rule:
We say [ 101% ].
Because it's different.
— It's not a lie.
— It's not inflation.
— It's a choice.
100% is everything you've got. But [ 101% ]?
That's when you find something extra.
That's [ The Magic ]—the spark you can't explain but instantly feel:
— The taste of home-cooked food made with love.
— The unexpected joy in a child's smile.
— The creative touch that makes you truly feel.
It's not a fake number—it's a mindset.
— It's pushing past the moment you'd normally stop.
— It's staying one second longer…
thinking one step deeper…
caring one ounce more.
— It's giving your all—and then a little more, because it matters.
(And yes—we borrowed it from The Smashing Pumpkins' "Owata," because "101%" feels right. Actually, it is right—it's the perfect metaphor for what love and intention bring to the table.)
[ And we're bringing it. ]
*Technically, this song was released under the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope moniker.
Fun Fact: “Owata” is the first song on my [ 2D ] “Hero” Mixtape.
Why This Isn’t Just About You:
It’s About [ US ]
We don’t believe in empty promises.
We don’t believe in fake effort.
We don’t believe in over-promising and under-delivering.
We believe in being present.
Giving everything.
Holding nothing back.
And when it matters?
We go 101%.
Because that’s how you make something real.
That’s how you change things.
That’s how you { Become. }
🔥 [ 2D ]
Your turn:
[ ? ] Is [ 101% ] something you can get behind, or is it just a bit of [ 2D ] madness?
[ ? ] Are you giving [ 101% ], or are you still saving something for later?
As someone who has struggled my whole life with trying to set realistic goals and feel like I'm performing 100% of the time (burnout be damned), this was such a good read! Thank you so much for sharing, this really helped me shift my mindset for the better.
Thanks for killing the "bad math"!
